Sympatex stock solution dyeing technology reduces water consumption

Functional Fabric specialist Sympatex has developed a retentive stock dyeing process for ready-to-wear fabrics that reduces water consumption by approximately 75%.

At the Performance Days show in Munich, Germany, in November 2018, the company demonstrated that its ready-to-wear innovations are based on fully recyclable textile surface materials combined with the advantages of raw material recycling processes and stock dyeing technology.

According to Sympatex, with this dye technology, water consumption during dyeing and finishing can be reduced by about 75%, while reducing chemical usage by up to 90%. In addition, when combined with a 100% polyether/polyester Sympatex film, the process consumes 50% less water than the commercially available PTFE film without losing its functionality.

These objects are ideal for fashion, outdoor and ski applications, with 100% water resistance and wind resistance in addition to optimum breathability.

Although polyester dyeing technology saves more water than traditional dyeing processes and significantly reduces chemical use, according to World Bank estimates, about 20% of industrial wastewater pollution comes from the textile industry.

Using the Sympatex stock solution dyeing technique, instead of adding the dye to the finished textile product, it is mixed into the raw material masterbatch. This not only improves the penetration strength of the dye line, but also has significant advantages in color blending and tone reproducibility.

Dr. Rüdiger Fox, CEO of Sympatex Technologies, explained that the only prerequisite for the widespread use of this dyeing technique depends on the close cooperation between all participants in the design process, as color selection must be agreed early. In view of the serious environmental problems caused by our industry in the producing countries, coupled with the huge ecological benefits brought by the liquid dyeing technology, this should be an acceptable concession for all relevant people.
